Forget the standard music quizzes where you just have to shout out the title and artist. In Music Match It's all about speed, clever combinations, and... elbow grease! This interactive party game combines your musical ear with the stress of musical chairs. Using the special app, you scan a QR card, and a hit instantly blasts from the speakers. Your job is to quickly check your hand of cards: do you have a card that matches the song? Toss it on the table and grab a "Claim Cube" before they run out!

What kind of board game is Music Match?

This is a frantic card game with a musical theme, supported by an app. The unique thing about Music Match The thing is, you don't necessarily need to know the exact title to win. It's all about recognizing features. Do you hear a synthesizer? Then it's probably the '80s. Do you hear a female singer? Then you play the "Vocals Woman" card. Because there's always one fewer "Claim Cube" than there are players, the time pressure is enormous.

How does Music Match work at the table?

Each player starts with seven cards. The DJ on duty scans a QR card via the Music Match app (linked to Spotify), after which the music begins playing. Now it's every player for themselves:

• Listen & Match: Search your hand for a card that matches the number. Categories include: Decade, Genre, Country of Origin, #1 Top 40 of Vocals.
• To play: Got a match? Quickly place the card on the table. Cards like "Artist" and "Title" are played face up (and are exclusive to the fastest player!), while other cards are played face down.
• To grasp: As soon as you play a card, you must immediately take a Claim Cube. If you're late and run out of cubes, you lose the round and must take penalty cards, even if you answered correctly.

After the round, flip the QR card over and check the matches in the app. Wrong guess? Then you have to draw cards. The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the game.

Is Music Match difficult to learn?

No, the rules are very simple. Because all the answers are ultimately on the back of the QR card (or in the app), there's no room for discussion. The great thing is that even with limited music knowledge, you can win by thinking logically or guessing correctly. The game does require a smartphone with internet access and preferably a Spotify Premium account (to avoid ads between songs).

Playing time and intensity

A game lasts about 25 to 30 minutes. The intensity is high because everyone plays simultaneously. There's no "waiting for your turn"; as soon as the music starts, everyone is on edge. The dynamics of the Claim Cubes create hilarious scenes where players miss just in time.
